Haven't used Blender 3D in over a year. New interface?

Hello everyone,

I have been using Blender3D since around 2004 (Maybe even earlier), but I haven’t had the time to touch it in the past year or so.

Not long ago I have told my Maya using friend how cool Blender3D is, how it’s just as strong as Maya and how she should really see it.
So we sat down, downloaded Blender3D, opened it, and I stared blankly into the screen.
My first words were something along the lines of “Ummm…What?”.
Why is there a TimeLine in the bottom? What are those weird panels in the right and left? Why doesn’t the Space button add objects anymore? I pressed F12 to render (Atleast that still works), but now how do I close the renderer? (It used to just open a new window which I could close), What the hell is going on?! Is this blender?!

Anyway, I was trying to look for “Blender 3d new interface” documents but couldn’t find anything. It’s probably that as recent a change as I had initially thought and I have been gone for way to long.

So if anyone could point me to a good tutorial on the new blender for old blender users (Now I feel like a geezer), and tell me what major things have change while I wasn’t looking, I’d be very grateful

Try some youtube searches for 2.5 interface. That should get you started.

2.49 was the last version of the “old” Blender

shift-a will open a menu to add items. (similar to the old spacebar menu)

Yes, (re)start with 2.49 ( there’s lots of docs/tuts available) and then you could switch more easily!
Bye

Can you believe that when I looked for this forum I searched for “elysiun”?

heh…Good times…
