having hair behave like real hair

How would I make hair just fall to gravity, but not through the character’s head and body?

I want to make a character with long hair without having to constantly comb it out of the way.


Which version of Blender are you using? In 2.49b you can use Soft Body physics. In 2.5x there is a new method called Hair Dynamics. Both need collision objects to prevent the hair strands from penetrating meshes. You can also use key weighting with Soft Body to control how much the strands are affected by the physics sim. I’m sure Hair Dynamics has something similar but I’m not familiar with it yet.

I’m using 2.49b. I’ll investigate your suggestions.
