In Edit Mode, when selecting elements with the X-ray tool inactive, I’m able to select the ones on the other side. The funny thing is that this doesn’t apply to all the objects. Case in point the body mesh of my character doesn’t do this, on the other hand, while working on the dress, I had to select faces individually.
Edit: My problem is not editing 2 things at once. My problem is:
Edit one object,
select frontal faces/vertices, (no Xray).
It selects faces/vertices from behind, like I have X-ray.
Problem number 2. I can’t select any objects in Object Mode, with the X-ray feature on, with the Select Box Tool.
I haven’t tried editing two objects at the same time but I don’t think you can select elements of two different objects at the same time. What i mean by this is that you can’t select a face of object1 and then shift select a face of object2, I can’t currently test is this is the case since I am at work. My presumption is that only the object that is currently active can be edited, editing a different object makes that one active.
I am guessing it is to improve workflow since you don’t have to keep switching between object and edit mode when editing different objects.
After you clarrification… ( i also overread inactive )… how do you even see the vertices/faces from behind or that they are selected ? You might show a screen shot ??
I’ve come to the realization that it depends on the dress topology. I was indeed wondering why couldn’t I replicate the issue, since I closed the dress.
When I select the faces, vertex, and so on and there’s a gap, it selects what’s behind the gap. Is it normal?
Hi, if you are in object mode the faces behind will not be selected, only if you are in Xray mode the faces behind are selected. It could be that the faces are not completely bidden behind?
Colud it be you have choosen some options to do some different selections ?? It seems it does not depend on the normals (blue and red with face orientations enabeled).
I was selecting edges in the picture. The only selection setting I know is the GPU Depth Picking, which has no influence over this. If there’s a gap it will select the objects’s faces or whatever beyond that gap. The normals are all in the right direction.
Hmm… it seems my mind tricked me accroding to the settings on the box selected… (justcheckr 2.79 and even 2.49. )… and yes if your violet object is hiding some parts of your blue object then this is not hidding edges of the blue one from the selection of edges of because in this object the are “not hidden”…
Visually hidden by another object simply does not mean hidden from the possibility of selecting in edit mode for this object. You might switch to local view to see only that object and you will see the selection of edges of your object “beyond that gap”.
You can select that part and hide it, switch back to non local view and select from the non-hidden parts.
