HDRI dotted ?

Hello,

I am new to blender and i really like this software, but i have a little problem, i have followed thie tutorial

http://biorust.com/index.php?page=tutorial_detail&tutid=73

and i don’t success to have the same result.

here is what i have done :

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/0001.jpg

internal render, with this parameters :

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/Image%201.png
(render settings)

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/Image%202.png
(sphere mapping)

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/Image%203.png
(world setting)

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/Image%204.png
(second world setting)

So for this test, is it normal that i don’t see the world hdr image reflecting in the sphere ?

Second test :

i have tryied the same scene but with the yafray render engine :

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/0002.jpg

with exactelly the same parameters for the mapping

only this parameters for the rendering :

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/Image%205.png
(yafray)

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/Image%206.png
(yafray gi)

So my main problem : why can’t i have the hdr image reflect in the sphere like this ? :

http://biorust.com/tutorials/blender-hdri/step3.jpg

And finaly (but it is not in the tutorial) i tryied this setting for the world mapping :

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/Image%207.png

and it give me this result :

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/0003.jpg

and

http://www.kawaiyume.net/~blender/0004.jpg

BUT : the render is all dotted ! why ? what is the parameter that give me this result ?

Is the tutorial wrong ? or maybe to old ? or is it me that don’t understand something ? :o

Thanks for help

Only Yafray works with HDRI, not the internal renderer.

Change these settings:

  • Filter = 5.00 (it’s under the “Load image” button)
  • Under the “Texture and Input” tab just select AngMap
  • Under the “Map to” tab just select “Hori”

BTW, when you use an HDRI probe you do not need any other light sources (The probe illuminates everything).

That’s it.

Cool ! it works !

(here with quality = best)

thanks.

Nope, internal works too. I would post an example rendered with Blender internal, but I can’t seem to find my thread…

Lord of the Rings Junkie is right, current version of Blender supports .hdr files, both load and save. When used with AO, it can also be used for lighting, somewhat similar to yafray, though probably more noisy.

I didn’t know that. Just tested HDR with AO and it works.

Thank you.

Ah, here’s the example I was looking for (now that the search function is fixed.) http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59803&page=2
