Heavily inspired by grzybu’sWarm up! image in Finished Projects.
Nice ec2. Still hooked on the HDRI thing, eh?

Thanks BgDM. CG Photorealism just captures my imagination for some reason. HDRI gives me a change to come close to those kinds of images. I know you know what I mean.
This scene was just a quick exercise to get me back to doing some 3D work. I haven’t done anything really for 2 months (job search). Now that I’m working again I can take some time with my hobby and not feel guilty.
What does HDRI mean anyway? I have heard the term used quite a bit, but am still unaware of what it stands for. ?
It means High Dynamic Range Image. This is a format that is used by raytracers for producing realistic lighting. The lighting of the scene is taken from the highs and lows of the image used, so the image becomes the light source.

Ahhh! Thanks for enlightening me BgDM.
No problem!
BTW, you can use HDRI in YAFray, so give it a try.
BgDM
Always good to see others using HDRI I should dig out some old models and do some HDRIs with them…

Jms’ script is responsible for me getting into Povray and understanding the scripting language for POV. His documentation of the script is so good. Couple that with www.povray.org and the newsgroups and you can get great renders.
Yafray is next on my list. If you haven’t seen it, in the Artwork forum there is an awsome chess set render. I think its by phil. Yafray took of like a rocket here and I know I can learn from the other users.
