HDRI Test

So here I am playing with Cartoon Fish, an Alien head and a college portfolio, and I think to myself: “Gee, self, ya know you never have used Yafray for a project before, or at least let it render for a while.” But then I thought, “But I don’t want to set up lighting and such when I have so much on my plate already, Although I could just use an HDRI!”. So here it is, more or less a simple scene in homage of Yafray ability to use HDRIs.

your subsurfed cone and cylinder look like junk(possibly the worst primatives for subsurf known to man  ) But the HDRI looks good as far as I can tell. I dont use yafray ever, Im way too impatient…
good work!
PS the IOR on suzzane looks a bit funky…she is glass, right?

Monkey girl I played around with the ior a bit, Kind of looks like a frosted plastic. And I happen to love the effect achieved when you subsurface a cylinder!

can u achieve caustics with just HDRi? i mean without the use of photon lamps??

Ha, not dissing your cylinder
And yeah, suzie isnt quite frosty enough…maybe a could texture could help?
peace man
Drew

It is cool, but it sucks when you just want a smooth cylinder…

dingdingding, give the guy a prize…

Just add an edge loop to the end of the cylinder and it subsurfs fine.

Yeah, thanks, I actually already know that technique

Yes, As you can see noting complex, but still it allows for some light bends. Oh, and if any of you decide to do this your self or haven’t ever used YAfray: When using an HDRI map, DO NOT turn Cache on. Trust me on this.
