HDRI Testing

I’ve been working with HDRI images in Blender recently, and I’d like to hear some opinions on some of the images I’ve produced.

Are there ways to make the ball more realistic (i.e., textures, distortions, to give some bumpiness to make the ball less fake)?
Where should I place lights to make that shadow less solid (to the side/front/back of the sphere)?

I don’t know anything about HDRI still,but try to use soft shadows,other than that,I have no other suggestions…

try lowering the glossiness, a little blur on the reflection will go far.

Also welcome to the cult of the noob.

@N00BIE

Haha, thanks. I’ll try the gloss reduction.

i havent seen a mirrored ball that good for quite some time!

Hi, it depends of the materiaI of the baII, because if it is a carpaint or metaI it may have some fresneII, it makes the baII onIy refIects on angIes of 90 degrees from the cámera, and I recomend to use spotIights or area Iigts to make the shadow softer, if you want to fast the render you can use shadow buffer and put a resoIution of 1024 its quite good quaIity I recomend you this post http://www.subdivisionmodeling.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13176
