Head, 3rd try

This is my third attempt at making a human head and after hours of frustration I think that this one is headed in the right direction and I’m not too embarassed to show it to other people.

Here it is

What do you think? Third times a charm?

nice head, has appeal. Good work, you shouldn’t be embarresed by this at all.
If I had to give you crits, I’d say detail wise the corners of the lips come to a point which is unnatural, they should come to a line that slopes gently in from the face, the top eyelids’ fold looks too wide/heavy, but that’s minor. You might want to round out that chin a bit. Are you gonna give him/her ears? proportions are ok for a cartoony character, If you want you could bring down the eyes a bit, then bring down the top of the skull a bit (not a lot) maybe an eye-height, its hard to tell from the angle. The eyes are a bit far a part, but that’s ok. Once the eyes and general proportions are done, you should probably work on shaping the cheekbones properly; right now they look to low and undefined, but part of that might be the height of the eyes.
again, good work, keep it up.
ps. could you post a wire?

Definitely a very good job.

I have nothing to add to what slikdigit has already pointed out.

Nice start. It’s good that you’re keeping at it. Other weenies would just give up rather than take leasons learned from building one mesh and apply them to the next.

Here’s a good reference to help you pull out some more structures in the face and highten your realism:

nice one shadowman99. lots of good reference on that site.
/edit: perhaps a 3d model of that cast would be just as good a drawing aid?

Thanks for the comments. Here’s an update and wires It’s probably going to be a she so that I can put hair all over her and cover up the place where I’m not putting ears.

I’m really surprised that nobody commented about the nose. I was more concerned about the nose than anything. I guess that means it looks ok?

The nose is OK. It’s structured well (especially around the nostrals). It might benefit from being scaled up slightly so the bridge of the nose isn’t so close to the face.

The chin could use some structure. Below yur bottom lip there is no variation in shape. A stronger jawline would help the overall shape of the face.

You could taper the thickness of the lips at the ends. And since you said the mesh is a “she” you might make the lips fuller.

also you should smooth out the area below the eyes and above the cheekbone- it doesn’t cave in that much in people, and the way it does in the model give the impression of extreme old age.
