Can someone recomend me a tutorial for realistic head modeling? im trying to find one that does not use background images. i looked at blender cookies tutorial, but it was speed up, wich meant i couldnt get the idea how to even start right
Hardly anyone poly models from scratch nowdays. Most everyone sculpts, then retopos.
Even more so if you are learning how to model.
It’s gonna take you a while even to learn sculpting, you can easily multiply that by x5 when it comes to polymodeling.
Dyntopo is a great environment to learn sculpting, I’d recommend trying that first.
William Vaughn has some really cool images on his website (pushingpoints.com) that shows step-by-step how he models from a cube or sphere. His is a master character modeler, but AFAIK he only uses Modo or Lightwave.
Every other “good” tutorial I’ve followed uses reference images. Nothing beats being able to follow a reference photo, even if it’s for a cartoon model. Just my opinion.
