Height Maps... Kaput in 2.40?

I’m loading the texture, and repeatedly hitting “noise.” It doesn’t deform into my land texture, but rather random deformations.

Is there a step I’m missing?

If you are hitting the Noise button in the mesh edit mode, it will not affect any of the textures.

There is a difference between a texture displaced mesh and a pure displaced mesh. The noise will work on the pure displaced mesh, I believe, but not the texture displaced mesh. The texture displacement is only applied during rendertime.

Don’t scale the object before hitting noise or the texture gets repeated as a checkerboard pattern. Add Object (or Alt-S, Ctrl-A if it’s added already), add material, add texture and hit Noise.
