hellion (game character)

this is another character for the game darkwar that i am working on…

Hellion - these soldiers are equipped with thrust boots (and possibly a thruster backpack), and folding wings on their back, the wings never fold up completely, so they are somewhat clumsy while earthbound, but once they take to the air they are agile flyers and capable of flying almost as well underwater as in the air (albeit slower), their specialties are recon and tactical strikes (using their grenade launcher to strike specific targets before attempting to get back to an APC or base to rearm, their machinegun also works but at the distances involved the accuracy is not that great). They are best taken out by rapid fire weaponry (in particular the Minigun Turret) or Dropship.

and i figured i might as well see what the concept art would look like so i just started on this, i may change the concept but not too much from this… this would be the general idea.
note the base mesh was just a quick throw together of an older mesh so that i could place things properly, most of that mesh wont make it into the final model, so things like the hands and feet will be completely redone.

Looks good, Maybe (Starcraft) Kerrigan-style wings?

It looks to me like he would have a very limited range of motion at the neck. Are you planning on animating this thing? The sketch is awesome. Like the detail work on that chest plate thing-a-ma-jigger.

it will definately be animated… the head will not move that much but will definately move, in the air this it is supposed to look very graceful , while on the ground it will be somewhat clumsy and hard to maneuver …

small update, adding in more of the body armor, boots will have thrustes in them , and there will probably be a forcefield membrane between the two wing extensions … or will it?

still quite a few problems with this, first thing is the feet are too wonky, the hands need to actually be worked on instead of having placeholder hands… the chest area needs more work, and a friend of mine pointed out the hips probably need to be reworked if the animations will run ok …

I would have stuck to the concept. Now it’s a Halo ripoff.

well i wanted to stay with the original concept but the lead dev didnt want something that looked too bat like which it did … so i had to make it more humanoid…

only thing that looks really halo like to me is the vizor…

Could be. The original concept though is better since it’s not the typical “space marine” look. And some creativity would do the games of nowadays a lot of good.

yes i agree there…

hopefully i can make this look somewhat a-typical when i eventually get to the high poly stuff and can bake something interesting into the normal map … and also hopefully can figure out a nice design for the forcefield wings…
