For example, if I wanted to put stacks of books, sheets of paper, water bottles, etc on the countertop or small crates or knick knacks on the floor.
Use the asset browser/ asset libraries in blender for that.

You can use Shift + Right Click, over a location, which will snap the cursor to that location, then when you add the asset it will be placed there ( make sure that the asset has its origin on the bottom face)
