Hello, I'm new and have a couple of questions

Hello,

I’m running blender 2.41 on a pbookG4 1.67ghz 1.5GB ram OSX 10.4.5
I read an article on Blendernation ‘stupid memory problems’ that talked about macs. (http://orange.blender.org/blog/stupid-memory-problems)
It is over my head, I don’t understand. It lists a few strings of code (mmap) that talks about optimizing memory usage. Is this only for people running over 3 gigs of ram, or will it help me with 1.5 gigs as well?

I’m new to the Mac world also. I read that OSX 10.4 is 64 bit (from a forum). Is there options I should change from default to make rendering faster to take advantage of this? hyperthreading?

I would greatly appreciate any advice for the best way to run this on my machine. I just found this site and look foreward to learning and contributing whatever I can.

The ram won’t concern you until you have HUGE animations and scenes for rendering. As far as 64 bit, you don’t have it with a ppc G4. Only the G5 is 64 bit capable.
