hey im just trying to make a smoke ring that goes horzontial and dissapiates when ever my chacter talks
or when i want him to .ie when he sighs

this is by far nothing that is easily done and nothing that would normaly be simulated but faked using displacement or the right shaders. That being said if you do want to do real smoke simulations i recommend this program here:
Here you can work on fire and smoke simulations in realtime, which should get you to your goal way faster then meddling around with the Blender simulations. They can then be easily exported Back into Blender through open vdb files. Again this a really hard thing to do, i think you should try to go into a just a little bit easier direction first and animate Displacement of a ring by baking your sound to the F-Curve of your displacement.
