Hello Ripstring. Would you mind answering these questions?

I have tried to private message you. I have also tried asking these same question inside of other topics. I stated asking about 2 weeks ago but never get and answer and I have tired more then once.

#1 what are the buttons on the sides of the sliders in FiberGUI?

#2 Is there any chance that you viewlet that you have on your site about how to use Fiber1.3 can be made into and html file so that it can be printed out. Also the one on importing a terragen surface over a terragen imported terrain.

Here is the original pm that I wrote on the 14th of march.

Hey RipString.

I tried using Fiber1.3 last night on a low poly model that I downloade from somewhere and I had a problem. I will try to detail step by step what I did.

  1. loaded the blend of the model
  2. Opened a new window and made it a text window
  3. Loaded fiber1.3 into that text window then loaded fiberGUI into that window also.
  4. Selected the model in the 3d window and went into the face mode.
  5. pressed VKEY to get into the vertex paint mode.
  6. Chose a sky blue vertex paint colore that was a combination of red and blue. ( I wanted to affect lenght an density. I am not sure of this step exactly as I am righting this the morning after from work)
  7. vertex painted just the faces on the sides and back of the head of the model in that sky blue.
  8. put the mouse back in the Fibergui python window and pressed ALT-P to get the gui.
  9. click estimate faces. I got 48K+ faces estimated (also not sure of the exact number)
  10. Press the create button.

Ok every thing went fine EXCEPT I got hair fibers ALL over the model. Like she had grown fur. I was just trying to give her hair on her head that is why I vertex painted just the back and sides of the head. What did I do wrong?

Also one thing that I notice is that the fiber meshs come out looking really flat. Like they are knife bledes. Is there anyway of giving them more “roundness”

Thanks
Shaba1

Ok I get the same thing a TazyTigy but not every time. Sometimes it works and sometimes it just stits there. Here is my setup
WindowME
pyton 2.01
python 2.2# I put both of them on but in differnt directories just becasue some scripts require one or the other I have also made a dual set python path to check the 2.0 directory first then the 2.0 libs,2.0 libs dll, 2.0 lib dll tk directories then after those are check th2 2.2 directories of the same name.
Blender creator 2.20 # I thought it was 2.23 when I downloaded it last year but the splash screen at the begining says its 2.20 Oh well.

I also have publisher 2.25 but I do not run that much with scripts. I tend to test them out first in 2.20 unles the author says that the script is specifically for publish.

On another not what do those buttons next to the sliders do. I do not think that was explained in the read me.

Edit: Oh btw Ripstring if you see this would you consider making an html tutorial on using this script rather then the viewlet. The java really slows my machine down and sometimes makes me have to reboot.

Ok I know you are doing this on your own and with no help and for not money. So do not take this as a critisism but a note to say I am working on it or get lost or something would make me think that at least I am not being ignored.

what are the buttons on the sides of the sliders in FiberGUI?

The buttons in the GUI are for increasing the maximum value for the slider bars. This is useful, for example, if you only want to work with numbers 0-10 for your density so you can have greater control dragging the slider and not having to Shift-Click so you can type in the exact values. They also make it so that there is virtually no limit…

Is there any chance that you viewlet that you have on your site about how to use Fiber1.3 can be made into and html file so that it can be printed out.

I used the viewlets because they are quick to make and they show cursor movement. I’ll basically have to redo both tutorials to have them in HTML. I’ll try and get to it when I have time.

Ok every thing went fine EXCEPT I got hair fibers ALL over the model. Like she had grown fur.
As for your problem with the hairy lady:
Interesting timing:) I just fixed this very problem! Fur should no longer appear on the rest of the body if you download the new script.

Thanks for answering. I just knew that I had asked a few times and had not heard anything. I did not mean to any offense at all. ok here are a few more questions.

Gravity. Increasing the gravity slider makes the fibers become more attracted to the mesh or more attracted to whatever is the local mesh’s z axis. In other words what is the center of the earth. Or is it decreasing the slider. Also what had the greater effect on both gravite and density the sliders or the vertex colors?

Gravity. Increasing the gravity slider makes the fibers become more attracted to the mesh or more attracted to whatever is the local mesh’s z axis.

Gravity makes the fibers bend towards the global -z axis. This way a person can do a flip and their hair will tend to be pulled towards the ground always.

Also what had the greater effect on both gravite and density the sliders or the vertex colors?

They are multiplied together. Here’s how it works:
Vertex paint colors range from 0 to 1, so I multiply the vertex color with the appropriate value.

So say your gravity slider is 20, and you’ve vertex painted your mesh with .25 red. The total gravity for that spot will be 5.

Thanks for the response. Ok next stupid questions.

#1)I suppose the number of segments me how many parts each strand of the fiber is made from. Correct?

#2) Length of segment controls how long each strand will be?

#3) But if this is true then will not all the stands be the same length.

#4) How does intial gravity works on the strands.

#5) Randomize direction I assume causes each strand to take a different slant/slope in relation to the global z axis.?? And I would suppose that is affected by the follow normals slider?

#6) Can you give me a better definition of what the frizziness does?

Ok I think that is it. I will leave you alone when I get answers to these questions. Just let me say THANKS for making such a wonderful script. I know you are doing it on your own time and that it is a voluteer effort. I just want you to know that I appreciate it.
