Why that particular software?
A few reasons: It’s free; I can’t afford to buy a big package. Also, I find it really pleasant to use – I don’t want to buy a “pro” package; suffering with 3ds max for 5 months that was reaffirmed.

What is your favorite color? Blue

How about favorite color combination?
The university would tell me to say “orange and black”, but I think blue and gold.

What do you think is the most overused color / color combination?
Color: Black; Combination: Blue and white (like msn.com)

What inspires you?
Learning for its own sake

Why do you use software X?
#1 reason: it doesn’t crash. #2: If I think it’s well written, I’ll use it.

Who’s your favorite digital artist?
Shigeto Maeda. His abstract/surreal creations are the opposite of the logic that a computer embodies. Creating the illogical using logical tools is amazing.

Who’s your favorite Traditional artist?
Salvador Dali. Again, his surrealism intrigues me.

Do you do any traditional art? No.

Do you always have something with you? (ie. sketchpad, pencil, pen) Usually I don’t.

What do you think is the most overused tool?
Raytracing is way overused – it’s an amazing tool, but a crappy scene doesn’t become good if you make everything chrome or glass.

Most underused? NURBS surfaces (in Blender).
Which of your projects are your favorite?

Some diamond thing I did. (and my current one)

What is your current Project?
Modeling a J-class yacht.

Describe your process.
Go with the flow, but often this doesn’t work. Instead I try to familiarize myself with what I’m modeling, examine details, etc. I’d make sketches but I really can’t draw very well. Then I find a couple of good starting places, and model and texture as I go. I refine everything in a series of passes.

  7. Regularly? For art/work? Blender, GIMP, Sodipodi, Cinelerra, vim and occasionally I’ll use Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, and Softimage if I’m caught in Windows… that’s for my personal stuff… at work it’s a different question.

on a different note, riskbreaker just got his forum monkey status… 500 posts. i joined about three months later and this is my ninth post. wow.

Maybe this nearly complete Revolutionary War style hangman game I made several years ago on qBasic for History class … it had fairly decent graphics.

I jump from project to project far too often, but I have several things in the works … sort of. I thought of a boardgame syle computer game that might be fun. I had some ideas for 3d models and animation sequences I wish I could make, but every time I start I become dissatisfied and quit. I have two children’s books ideas that I worked on some. I have a couple unfinished musical peices I’m composing. I have been working on N3D version 2 for a while, although I am not as far along with it as I wish I were.

Describe your process.
I get some great idea and become very enthusiastic about it, then, a half hour later, I become bored of the idea and never return to it. I wish I had more creative stamina.
