HELP A NEWBIE - Mat and Tex

Hey all. Total newb here. I just loaded Blender 2.25 for Windows. Its my first experience with 3d modelling, but I’m almost ready to beat my head on the desk already. I checked everywhere I could but couldnt find my issue on any of the sites or tutorials.

When I apply a texture to an object, it always applies the texture to ALL the objects in the scene. I’m making sure to select only the single object, but it still applies the texture to everything. If I select another object and apply a different texture, again it applies it to everything. I thought I had figured it out, and tried adding each object in a different layer and applying the textures that way, but its still doing the same thing. It applies the texture to all the layers.

Thanks in advance for help. Prolly something I’m doing wrong. :expressionless:

Do you have the Material applied to all the objects? If so, then the texture will applied to all the objects as well.

To delete the material, just click on the other objects in your scene, go to the material window and delete the material.

Hey BgDM

Thx for the quick reply. I apologize, I’m not even finding how to delete a material. I select an object in the scene by right-clicking it. Than I click the materials button, click the little minus sign, then click the texture button, and choose the texture, which then applies to everything in the scene. What you say makes sense, and I probably am accidentally applying the material to everything and not just the object, I’m just not sure exactly how to apply a material to only one object. Any um “mat and tex for dummies” type directions? (sheepish grin)

Thanks again!

Sounds like you need to either add new material or make material a Single User when you select an object you want to have a different material for. You get these choices when you click the minus sign in the material window, same for the texture window, otherwise you’ll get the same texture even for different material settings.
Hope this helps,

That did it. You were right, I was accidentally applying the material to all the objects, I just making new textures, and had forgotten to create a new material first.

Thx all, I really appreciate it.
