Help a Noob; Repository material not mapping properly

Hey guys,

As I’m (as stated) a noob. I’ve followed a ton of tutorials, but doing does not equal understanding, so please forgive me in advance if my questions seem simple and/or stupid.

I recently started working on my own, without tutorials, which lead me into seemingly incredible simple problems I just can’t seem to figure out. I have downloaded some materials from the blender repository, but every time I put them on something that’s not a circle they don’t look anything like the preview.

Cube, plane, custom mesh and UV sphere, see it only looks anywhere near proper on the sphere;

This is the material;

Now I know (e.q. read) some things about mapping, but the texture seems to be subdivided into multiple textures, and I’m not really sure which one I should mod, or even all of them, or none and do something else…

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,

Dylan

To elaborate a bit; I know about mapping, but there are multiple textures so I don’t know which I should map, or even if I can “mass-map” them.
