I am trying to make a greenscreened person to get up on a CG horse. I used the powerful node compositor to remove the green and save to a sequence of PNG images. I created an alpha plane and used UV face select to apply the first PNG image to the plane. Then I enter texture view so I can move the alpha plane as needed to help my character get onto the moving CG horse - but … the PNG image doesn’t animate - it gets stuck on the first image. So I can’t see what the character is doing in real time.
Is there a way to do this?
Assuming you’re loading the images as a background image: you load the image, then set it as a Sequence, enable Auto Refresh and set the number of Frames to the number of images in your sequence.
Mystery
In the UV Image Editor, press N and change it to Sequence and the standard movie controls as Mystery indicates.
I can’t get it to work. This is what I did:
- create plane
- switch to UV face select mode
- open a UV / Image editor window
- Unwrap the plane
- open an image and select a movie
- Press “N” in the UV / Image editor window
- the properties window doesn’t show the “Auto refresh” button. If I switch to object mode then I can see the “Auto refresh” button.
- I advance frames but the UV decal on the plane doesn’t advance frames.
What am I doing wrong?
Here is a clip of what I am doing. I had to do this manually (rendering every so often to make sure the stirrups stayed on the feet and that the guy gets up on the horse properly - a real pain.

Oh, I’m not using the plane as a background - I am putting a green screen live person on it so I can bring a live person into an animation and move the plane around to interact with Blender objects like horses. I need to see the UV image animate in order to position the characters correctly. Otherwise I have to render and render until I get the live character where I want it and that can be very time consuming.
just above the frame count…that light green wide button labelled Auto Refresh…

PapaSmurf,
I still can’t get the UV texture to animate. I have included a blender file below. Inside the testAnimatedUV.zip file is a packed blender file with an AVI file that is UV textured to a plane. When you open the file in blender you will see the background has the AVI movie and the plane is UV textured with the same movie. If you move to frame 2, 3, 4, etc you will see the background image animating but the UV image doesn’t. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help!

Help? Anyone?
y’all better hope I don’t die or something. So, yo, Eric: Blender has nothing against you personally. I just want you to know that. It’s just being fickle. In your UV/Image Editor, press N to see the basic movie control panel. In the 3D view, you see the image texture. Now go back to object mode. see what changed in the UV/Image Editor?-Addtional Movie/Sequence controls. <<NOW maybe you have to go back into UV Face Select>> Click AutoRefresh in that panel and use the panel controls to select the number of frames used, cut the rollup using the offset, etc. cool?
Now if you would, return the favor and gimme some constructive criticism on my RGB video tutorial (News and Disccussion forum). Thanks!

I downloaded the blend, and it was empty of any video source - you have to pack the file before saving, keeping all textures embedded in the file.
Where’s that again? Can’t find it - a couple of days ago?

I almost got it. The only problem left is that the applied image doesn’t auto refresh on the plane object. It does auto refresh in the UV/Image editor when I advance frames but not on the plane. If push the “render this window” button on the 3D window then it updates the image frame on the plane.
How do I get it to auto refresh on the plane object?
