HELP Connecting vertices while using mirror modifier

I’m sorry if this has been asked many times!

But i’m working in blender as a noob and by pressing cntrl and left click in edit mode i make vertices lines, im using mirror modifier to get the same result on both sides, but i dont know how to connect the first dots! Again i’m so sorry if i’m being a huge noob right now. Alot of people say alt M, doesnt seem to work, and simple pressing F doesnt either.

You have Merge and Clipping enabled in the mirror modifier so just move them to the center line or extrude another vertex (E) and move that to the centre

as you already have clipping and merge enabled in your modifiers you should be okay by moving the vertex to the center. If you deselect the vertex it should be merged with the mirrored one.
