I want to simulate some smokes for foods ans drink, like a just cooked meal or a cup of tea. I **DONT** want a gush of smoke like in jet or explosion or like something is burning…i **WANT** the one like we see above a tea cup. How to do that?

Yeah this is actualyl quite easy:

1. First create your Smoke Domain around the object

2. Add a plane that fills the inside of the tea mug or the area where you want the steam/smoke to rise from

3. make this a flow object in the smoke simulation

4. go to the particle settings on the plane

5. change the amount of particles to something like 100(depends on simulation length)

6. go back to your smoke’s domain and change the vorticity to 3 or 4

7. change the temp diff. to about .0425 (you may need to fiddle with this setting)

8. also select the high resolution box and make sure to change the noise method to FFT

There you have it, that should work, you may need to adjust the particle amount up or down.

In cycles or blender render?

Something wrong maybe I did 😛 Here what I did according to the instructions to test.

Can’t bake 😛
Maybe I need a more step by step instruction. i’m using blender only for two weeks.

You need to save your blend file to be able to bake.
Here are all the smoke sim tutorials I can find. It might be a good idea to watch them:

Hope this helps

-Thanks
P.S. The trick is to watch everything you see, one can learn very fast this way.

Two weeks? By the end of two weeks with Blender I was basically extruding a cube into an ugly cube… My advice to you is to close Blender and start hitting the tutorials. A quick search of google for “blender smoke simulation tutorial” should yield some great results (though I would go to advanced and select “past year” for the time frame to only get new tutorials.

Personally I almost always start with Quick smoke (and now the even cooler quick fire, but that is a different thread…) Then I tweak to my hearts content.

Oh, if you want to start the image with smoke above the cup, run the simulation and start the rendering at the frame where the smoke is in the position you want it to start in.

Hehe, I learn fast. Though I’m learning still different things from tutorials. Like learning something from one tutorial and applying that in something else again and discovering by myself. Thus I learn quick. At very first, the most difficulty i faced was setting and rotating the cam. I understood at which frame I need to render, just having difficulty to understand and control smoke simulation…either it’s becoming a gush of smoke , or sometimes my lighting doesn’t work with the simulation domain etc.
Anyways, tell me more about quick smoke.

Quick smoke is under the object menu (I think). It sets up all the basic smoke parameters and textures for you automatically. From there, you start tweaking.

This tutorial helped me a lot: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYNr0ZtyD1c](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYNr0ZtyD1c)
