I started with a shape like this:
I made it from a curve spiral and then converted to mesh and extruded a few verts to make the tail. You could also use a circle and proportional editing, probably.
Then I extruded it along the Z, and used a cylinder boolean:
Obviously I’d take more time to get the shapes more accurate for a real asset, but this is the general approach I’d take. Then just tidy up topology after applying the boolean.

Once the basic form is created, it is not difficult to edit and change the mesh.
The Extra Objects (curves) addon hase also spirals… so you can use them as a template to build up a mesh like so:
You can start with circle, extrude it inwards:
Move some verices using proportional editing:
Tune it more to have desired shape
