I managed to hide my menubar by hitting an unknown F-key.
How can I cause the menubar to reappear?

The Menu bar is actually the header for the User Preferences window.
It is possible that it just got moved up a little bit. Try and click and drag one of the top dividers to see if it’s hidding there.
If that doesn’t work, you can just make a window and change it to be the “User Preferences” window (it’s the left-most button on a window header). The options should show up. Just split/join windows until you get it in the right position again.
Put your mouse cursor over the window border and rightclick the double arrow then choose “Add Header”.
