Help for modeling clothing

hello again…

i am trying to model a martial arts gi clothing for my character,
and I know it sounds stupid, but i just cant wrap my head around it.
i am used to using the mirror modifier, but as it is not symmetrical its a problem. i just really need some advice.

Does it need to be an actual wrap, or can you fake that part with textures/bump/normals?

Because, if you can fake that part, it’s essentially a long sleeved V neck, more or less symmetrical.

If it does need to be real geo, I’d model it with the mirror modifier like any other shirt, then apply the modifier, split the line down the front, and manually adjust the area that needs to overlap.

i am not sure to how to do it with normals and bump, and i do want to do it with real geometry. its so much hard work though, but i will try

You may have found the “usual” tutorials like:

  • copy the body; cut of hands and feet; extrude along normal amd remodel …or
  • using very simple “cage”; supdivide and use cloth simulation to “make cloth”
