All sections are pretty much complete (except a couple of things…), including my gallery and the tutorials section…
If any of you are interested, I would really much appreciate, if you would go over there at: http://www.illusion-digital.com , take a look at it and then post here your crits and comments…
Your opinion will be very valuable to me, cause I really need to know what people think and want, in order to improve my site…
Is that times new roman? I personally hate that font, I’d suggest the same font family as elysiun (used by lots of websites) And for titles use bold rather than underlined, it can confuse people (what with links being underlined and everything).
Elysiun uses (from their css file):Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif
And yeah, I don’t like that muddy brown colour either. It doesn’t go.
Other than that it’s fine, nothing spectacular but very functional and good.
And if you want a free wysiwyg html editor, mozilla composer is slightly better than OOo in my opinion.
Actually I used mostly ‘Utopia’ as a font, but I suppose ‘Verdana’ would be pretty much o.k. with me and I think it wouldn’t be difficult to change that…
I see a lot of people “complaining” about the colours…
O.k. let’s “suppose” I’m strongheaded (:P) and want to keep the Black background… What other colours do you think it could “go” better along with black instead that muddy brown one???
When you click the “About” topic, “News” disappears as an option to choose. I don’t mind the colors except for the links page. The highlighted links with white lettering don’t seem to fit. Too bright and harder to read.
links are hard to see.
sites are not supposed to lose function over functionality. The point is to get info to the viewer, not look good. Thats what makes people come back, the ease of accesing info, not its looks.
I think a dark background is ok, but stark black looks a bit cheap. I would replace it with another color that’s close to black but not quite and has another color mixed in, like brown. Just like the white on your page is not quite white and that looks good.
The brownish color is nice too but the blue links don’t go with it. Oh wait they’re not links, I just tried to click on them. Now I see the link… Follow the tutorial by clicking here… now that is weird, looks like it’s highlighted. Get rid of the blue and pick another color for the links. Not sure what would go with the brown… maybe like a cream color? Something greenish? I really can’t tell you.
Yeah and no people will take the time to write it either. So you both get rid of spam and annoying people that want to contact you.
Nah better is to use the form: name [at] host (dot) topdomain
That works for me atleast. And is still just copyandpaste for the user…
There are some trickyer techniques that uses javascript or special characters too…
Nah… Well that issue is the least of my concernes right now… That’s because the site is up for a long time now and yet I never had really “heavy” problems with spam…
For the time being I wouldn’t want to sacrifice “functionality”… So I suppose it will stay the way it is… At least until I start having really big problems… If that happens I may reconsider what you propose…
I just visited the site again. The colors look much better now, especially the background and the links. Very nice harmonic color scheme.
Ooops, when you go inside the tutorial or open a picture in the gallery then the background is still black there. Have you tried CSS style sheets? You can have all the formats, fonts and colors in one file and you can make changes there that affect all your pages. It’s great and makes it a lot easier and faster to try out different styles.
