CG and reference photo shadows need to match. There is no hard shadows in his HDRI’s.
Hah. Good point. I hadn’t noticed that.
What’s the dynamic range of this? Just the name “insta” suggests it won’t be able to capture the very deep dynamic range required to capture the sun without clipping. I.e. HDRs from HDR-Labs are clipped (they do come with a config for additional sunlamp for a reason, but we can’t use it in Blender automatically), meaning the sun has a channel values up in the 20-30s, compared to unclipped HDRs where the sun channel values are up in the 200k-300k range - that’s 10,000 times stronger.
What you can do if the image is clipped is use the HDRs, and then support it with an actual sun lamp. Use a mirror sphere to rotate the sun lamp so that its highlight matches that of the HDRs “sun” position. While channel values 20-30 are way above white and technically HDRs, that’s still waaaaaay below the suns actual output. Insta360 Studio sounds like it should be able to capture relatively decent indoor situations though, maybe with the exception of concentrated flash lamps.
Hi CartG.
Thanks for you input. Yes, I have come to the conclusion that the Hdri will need to be supported by a sun lamp.
