Help please - Face gets distorted

Dear Forum,

I have created and rigged a new character. The rigging went pretty well except the for head. When I rotate it some parts of the face become horribliy distorted. I already checked the face weights - they are all pure red so this seems to be all right. Also, the face doesn’t get distorted at all when I rotate the neck instead.
Has anyone an idea what the problem could be here?

Try and select all the vertices of the head and remove them from the neck vertex group (select the group from the list in the Object Data of the Properties palette, and hit Remove).

To better avoid this problem during weight painting, you can set on the ‘Auto Normalize’ option of brushes, and by making use of the ‘Normalize All’ command you can point out eventual undesired assignments (on latest versions of blender it is available in Edit mode also, under ‘Weight Tools’ in the Tool Shelf).
