HELP PLEASE, THIS MODEL IS huge

i imported an obj model into blender, it is more detailed than i would like and is somewhat too large to work with (the blend file is 100 Mb aargh!!!). i have an old, slow, and crappy computer and hence attempting to use this file leads to blender crashing when i try to change it. i have tried removing doubles in edit mode but when i do this blender crashes, how can i “simplify” the model and remove some of the unneccessary details without blender crashing(once again)? please help, thank you.:frowning:http://1.2.3.12/bmi/blenderartists.org/forum/images/smilies/sago/no.gif i can upload the blend somewhere if neccessary.

What is your OS ?

EDIT: try http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/

Yes At http://www.pasteall.org
Open the blend and save it and push the compress button after you press f3,. It should go down.

I did not see you already had a link

damn me ! i uninstalled thast software just a week ago thinkling i would never need it. oh well…

does anyone know of other methods to simplify the file and remove some unneccessary detail, by the way would mesh lab crash upon attempting this? thanks.

i am not on my home computer at the moment so cannot test these methods, might i be able to copy sections of the geometry out of the big mesh in edit mode then simplify them individually before joining them back together. or does this require as much computing p[ower as modifying the whole blasted mesh. thanks.

ok i am trying meshlab now

can meshlab work with blendd file or have to export it as obj may be?

happy blendering
