I have a .3ds file and I want to import it into Blender. I go to File > Import > then I choose the file and then it takes me to a regular blender screen with the cube in the middle…what do I do ?
Anyone know of any tutorials at least ? What exacly am I doing wrong ?
Do you get a Phyton Script Error??
Nope it just simply puts me where I started with the default cube…it does not load the file…
Where is blender master Fligh % when you need him…he is probably tired of helping me every 5 minutes…lol…
Haha… not sick of helping, just in lurk mode (I have only about 100,000 words left to write till the book is done and I’m on a roll).
Anyhow, see if what they say in this thread helps:

I haven’t downloaded 2.41 yet but I see a lot of Python related questions posted. Using 2.38 or 2.40 to import other formats might be your best bet.

Thanks alot again and good luck on the book…
Ok another dumb problem…my file is a .max the blender import file is a .3ds…is there any diffrence ? Or ca blender not import .max ?
No .max import. You’ll need 3ds max to open the file, then from there export to a format that blender can import (3ds, obj, etc.).
BTW: “etc” is not a file format . . . means there may be others.
