I’m working on a small animation using the Flippyneck character from the animation challenge forum, story is:
Flippy is riding in an ornithopter and flies through a large open landscape, over fields of long grass blowing in the wind, over small lakes and through shadowed valleys.
Into this the sound of a phone ringing is heard and Flippy wakes up sat in his chair at his desk in his office. He searches for the source of the sound in a moment of confusion before he notices the phone.
The image below is a still of Flippy in his office. The Office
It seems a little bare, your comments would be appreciated.
This looks great… I’d love to see the finished animation.
First 2 things that grab my attention: (1) The shadows are really sharp; I feel like office shadows wouldn’t be so pronounced. (ie - try Area Lamps) They do give a certain mood to it though.
(2) You need light/scenery coming from the windows. I think that would really add a lot. Even if it’s night time, street lamps or something outside would add depth.
Otherwise, I think it’s in the details, like having things in the other cubicles (pics etc.), an outlet or a powerstrip by the desk, some screen on the computer. Really, just tons of little odds and ends.
Overall though, I think it looks fantastic and the idea is really fun.
I agree about the above, but i’d also like to add that the textures and materials do not really come across as natural… so that’s something you might want to work on if you go for “realism”
Thanks for the comments,
I will try to add more texture to the materials, and rework the lighting to decrease the sharpness of the shadows a little.
Hope to post new image today
