Help with 16 material limit.

Hello, I am trying to get a character from Daz Studio into blender. I am using the latest Collada importer v. 1.4.1 and it works well. Bones and meshes are there. But not all the materials and textures. The model uses more than 16 materials but Blender doesn’t. I heard there is really only one way to bypass this. By editing, the .mtl or materialList file. Anyone can help me with this? Oh and I am using Collada because it allows bone importing.

Any single object in blender cannot have more than 16 materials. You’ll have to split it into separate objects, no way round this as it is hard coded into blender. Blender 2.5 which is still in beta can handle many thousands of materials per object.

ok but trying to split it, would that be very difficult with the armature(bones) and animating in the game engine. Or would it act the same?

Also how would I then import the rest of the materials?
