Help With 2.49.2 and Plane Positions!

I’m working through the Tutorial “Precision Modelling” by Robert Burke, and i am needing to place a Plane facing the Side View (NumPad 3).

When i go to side view, and hit Space-Add-Mesh-Plane, the plane orients it’s self to the Top View instead of the Side View. How can i change this???

I’m using Blender 2.49.2, and Ubuntu 10.04

In the User Preferences / Edit Methods tab, select ‘Aligned to View’ for the Add new objects setting.
