Help with Blender and .nif exporter/importer

Ok, I’m relatively new to this modelling and modding thing so bear with me :o
Right, I downloaded Blender some time ago and have been working hard on some simple tutorials. When I first started using Blender the first black window says:

using python version 2.4
“Import site” failed; use -v for traceback

I thought nothing of this and Blender worked fine up till now. I’ve been getting into game modding recently, namely The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (great game BTW :wink: ) And in order to edit/add meshes to the game you need a .nif exporter, I downloaded this. I was given this link: http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Blender/Configuration
and on that link it tells to do the following step:

“File -> Import -> NIF -> Cancel”

Now when I go to File-> Import-> there is no NIF!
I think that this may have some connection to the earlier error but I’m fairly new at this stuff and so really don’t have a clue :confused: I’m using a Windows 98 ME at the moment and as I said, this seems to run blender fine.
Any help would be most appreciated,
cheers.

This is normal if you don’t have Python installed, don’t worry about it.
But if you are going into Game Making installing Python would be a good idea for external editing or just for a good Python support;)!

Good Luck (sorry I bumped this thread, but it seems no one helped him out)

hey, i’ve been modding it too! (just adding pets)
first off, like anicator said you need to install python
next: here’s some pitfalls to look out for (believe me, they hurt)

  1. DONT USE IK SOLVER TO ANIMATE!!!

  2. use armatures and never even begin to animate without them, if you animate, delete the animation then use armatures IT STILL WONT WORK

  3. start simple or you’ll get a headache in the first 2 minutes

have fun;) (in morrowind I’m an argonian thief… very fun)
