Help with blood material

Help with blood material
I have been searching around material repositories and forums but can’t seem to find a realistic blood material in cycles. What I see missing is the darkening of the blood with depth and getting more transparent as it thins. In my scene, I’m trying to make a small pool of blood with droplets around it which will be shown up close. I have experimented with fresnel and facing in the layer weight node as the factor of mixing between diffuse and transparency. Facing works from directly above very well but not from other angles.
Anyone know of a method or can link me to one?

in cycles try to add an SSS nodes
this should work better then try with some Fresnel or layer weight

but to work well you must add a lamp behind to better see the color density change function of distance
