Help with bones-painting

Im on this page:
http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/BSoD/Introduction_to_Character_Animation/Upper_body_weight_painting
I have all the bones attached etc, but when I move the bones of the model’s left arm the right arm also moves, but in a pshyco manner.

I followed the tut, and even did them twice, still getting the same results… sooooo Im not sure what to do.

I did this:

Important: Turn X-Mirror on

As it says. And I tried turning it off, but the challenge is still there.

Thanks for helping.

More information: I went through again and got the same results. So I give up. Searching for this is difficult. Havent found anything yet.

What I see happening: when I move the nonmirrored side the mesh moves nicely with it and the mesh of the other side goes crazy all over the place. Now when I grab the bones of the crazy side and move them, the mesh doesnt go with them. Does that help anyone?

I cant finish the tut without getting this fixed, LOL.

Select the Mesh, Ctrl-Tab into WeightPaint mode and Shft-Leftclick near the bone you want to explore, choose one of the Vertex Groups listed. If you choose LeftArm and the weight of the RightArm is red it means that verts from the RightArm are assigned to the Vertex Group of the LeftArm. Sure sounds like that’s the problem.

X-Mirror is used while rigging an Armature.

Thank you very much, I didn’t know about the shift-left click. I did finally just go back and take all the mirroring off and clear the arms and redo them.
But now I stll have a problem. A vertex is not being moved and I dont know why. I put the file up here:
http://www.whispents.com/idiotArm.blend

I tried to figure out for a long time and it is making me so frustrated I want to… we’ve all been there right? I just feel like Ive been there a little too long this week. smile.

OK, I had an idea and went back in again. And by clicking on the bones closest to the new idiot arm I was able to see an overlap of control from the chest down the arm.
I cleared it and started again and it works fine now. So thanks again for the shift lmb .

I thought you could have overlap with the bones control, but I guess not when you have opaque to 1 or solid. Live and learn.

It would be nice to have a trouble shouting wiki, indexed to the max with little things like this. But someone would have to create and maintain it.
