Help with Clothes Modeling

Howdy Fellers!
I was wondering If anyone could point me in the right direction here. I’m looking for a tutorial or maybe even some guidance on modeling clothes. Specifically Pants. I need some help with things like seams and pockets. I’m not sure if I should model the pockets or paint them somehow.
Thanks!

Paint them. 100%, paint them. Turns out, thin overlapping layers of polygons are just about the hardest thing in the entire world to animate. For tight fitting pants, don’t even make paints- just paint directly on the legs. For looser pants, duplicate the legs and use Alt S in edit mode to Expand where you want them to be looser. Then paint the details like pockets on. Either way, you’ll want to paint the pockets on, which you can do very simply in Texture paint mode

You could make the pants in Marvelous Designer and Import the mesh into Blender. Seems to work for me

Is it free?

But of course.

What are you talking about? Marvelous Designer starts at 200 USD a year

True there, but you can get older versions for free online

Not legally, and discussions of cracked/pirated software are not allowed here

Thanks for the heads up

So would I want to use normal Maps to sort of “Pop” Them out?

Normal maps, yep. Seam textures can be nice as well. You should be able to find both online- search for things like “PBR denim”

Another option is to go ahead and model what you want.

This is very much style-depending though.

You can then use mesh deform to cover the complex mesh with a cage. You can animate or even simulate the cadge.

Ok so this is a basic overview.

There is a lot of details I am leaving out and techniques to use in simulating just parts of the cloth.

If interested I can provide more details.

What kind of clothes do you need to make? If you intend to use them in a still or static shot, then I guess you can hand sculpt the entire clothes. But if you intend to use them in animation, then you’d need to make them using cloth simulation. And what do you mean by seams?

I know this is absolutely a self promotion, and I don’t usually do this nor do I like to do it, but if this is what you’re aiming for, then you can follow the link included in the OP to my Youtube channel, and find the ATATSC playlist.

If you want an add-on to help make clothing then you can’t go wrong with Simply cloth Pro…but it isn’t free…
For something free a great choice is MC-29
you will have to watch some videos to help you figure out how to use it…
I personally use it as I can trace a real-world clothing pattern in Blender and turn the resulting plane into an item of clothing with cloth sim…all in MC-29

Yeah I was going to mention that took as well.

Haven’t tried it. But we use Marvelous.

Good call out though.

I have marvelous as well but I find it crashes way more than it ever should…and silly things like scaling a backdrop for the pattern… I will probably update it eventually…but not anytime soon… Version 12 … I feel that even back on Ver 8 or 9 a fitting suit should have been the No. ONE inclusion … who wants to re-model all their clothes when a new avatar is needed?

There is a lot you can do with Blender. We use MD for the more challenging sims.
