i cant figure out how to export an animation as a seperate file.

i assume you’re talking about motion data/IPO information? if it’s possible, then only via some python plugins. check out the python section in the forums.
so what your saying is that the only way i can veiw somthing that i have animated (beside some pluggin) is in blender itself? yesno?

ok, be more precise - do you mean the rendered animation? if yes, then simply enter a filename in the render buttons and hit anim. you can shoose avi as filetype and you’ll have your final movie rendered as - guess what - an avi, which you can watch with any common movie-viewer.
