help with gus tutorial

I am working on the gus tutorial and his legs are sticking together when I try to extrude them as you can see in the pic. Help?

Whoops, my my pic didn’t upload.

Hello? Any one here?

You have to extrude them on at a time, and move them apart.

wait a minute;don’t you just extrude 1 leg …

you work on one-half of gus’s body then you shift d or duplicate that half
then mirror or flip it on the x axis
next, join the halves together by merging the two twin vertices between the halves

I’m in mirror mode.

Please someone help me!

We can’t do much without a pic.

Just grab (G) those bottom two verts and drag them to the right.

Hmm. That only moves one section at a time. Is there any way I can move them all at once?

You should move each set of verts as you extrude them since they are probably extruding straight down, not at an angle. So extrude, move sideways, extrude, move sideways, extr… It all gets easier as you become more familiar with the tools and before you know it, you’ll find a better way to make things go where you want them to.

If you don’t want to go back and re-extrude them then just select each set of verts and move them, there aren’t that many in the legs so it’ll only take a minute or two.

That’s not the problem, I’m having problems geting them to line up right.

Just bite the bullet and upload the .blend file to the same place you uploaded the pic and it’ll take ten mins to figure it out.

Sorry it took me so long to respond.

There isn’t much to see, I just did the tutorial up till adding arms and legs.

Is it okay if leg joints aren’t completely inline with each other?

If you are happy with leaving the leg joints out of line then it is ok to do so ,its your version of the model after all. From that pic above all the verts on the legs look like they are inline so i dont know how to help you.

Ok, so now I some how managed to get the viewpoint centered on the camera and can’t change it back.
