Help with opaque shadows & clear glass?

I have a scene with some glass objects whose shadows appear black and opaque…depending on the angle of the light (I have just 1 lamp) they can appear to have black oil in them.

here’s a render: http://www.coffeeonmars.com/lw/opaqueshadow.jpg

I’ve played with light type, cranking up the numbers of samples in shadow, and of depth in transparency…

Kinda stumped with this. Any suggestions would be a huge help!

thank you!

can you upload a file so we can look at it !

wold be easier to see if it is really shadoes doing this
on the wrong setting for the glass yo ahve there

now do you want a brigth enviroement or dark one ?

caue you pic seems to be at night - very dark in the first place
so may be it’s becasuer of not enough light in your scene?

Salutations

I can’t see your image (I’m at work and coffeeonmars.com is a reported “attack site” which I can’t visit), but to render transparent shadows, your lights have to have raytraced shadows enabled and the material(s) of the object(s) that receive the shadows must have “TraShadow” enabled.

@Rickyblender: dude, I’m not normally a spelling nazi, but could you at least try to reread your posts before clicking “submit”?

^^ the scene can be found there. I am also aware of the google warning about my evil site…dunno what to say. just another kindness provided by google, I spoze?

I uploaded just the scene…no image maps, as they aren’t used by the glass.

I am working with a darker scene here deliberately. this scene is just something I threw together to help me learn blender…shaders, lights, etc…

thank you for any tips!

It looks like you might be using buffer shadows. I think you want to use ray traced shadows.

mate, u forgot to turn on trashadow for your floor material
and that s why your glass shadow is solid black;)
