I think Yafray works with all Blender’s procedural textures now, but those look like they’ve been mapped with images - make sure you use image formats that Yafray works with (I think it works with TGA, but I might be remembering wrong).
Yafray doesn’t like all proceedural materials of Blender. That’s why you get the vases without “material” only with the base color.
I’m not sure what you mean. If the pic would be bigger maybe I could appreaciate the problem you have. Could it be that there’s AO turned on?

the textures are jpeg’s, and so i could edit them and save them to TGA’s? would that work?
i guess my next question is how do i “extract” them from the blend file? 3. and then whats the best way to change them?
I found this in the Yafray FAQ, which says that packed textures don’t work unless you unpack them to a directory. Since you downloaded the blend file, my guess would be that that’s the problem. To unpack them, you just push the little ‘unpack’ button (in the UV editor or in the Texture pane of the Materials window, depending on how the textures are loaded) and it should save them to a path relative to where your blend file is.
