Help with Solidify

Hi there,

I am using the solidify modifier to “hollow” out objects in order to send them to a 3d printer. The 3d printer is going to print out each of these objects out, but we are planning on printing a bunch of them so i need to hollow them out to save material.

The solidify modifier does not work on some polyhedron unfortunately. For example the tetrahedron:

When solidified:

Any help?

Have you an example of an object that doesn’t work. The tetrahedron works just fine for me when I add a solidify modifier.
It looks to me in your image that you may have wierd face normals (Ctrl+N) or double vertices in your mesh (W / remove doubles)

I think the problem is the verts aren’t welded. Even if the normals weren’t in the same direction you’d only have a distorted shell rather than the multiple faces solidifying separately like in that picture.

If you select that whole object and use Remove Doubles it should get your solidify to react properly. I tried to replicate the problem myself and the only shape I could get to mimic the problem was a 3 sided cone with all of the faces ripped apart.

Problem Solved. You guys are brilliant!!
