I’m currently in the early stages of developing a short movie, the scripts and story boards are works in progress, and I’m doing some test renders to settle on a style.
My problem is this. The spaceship in the scene looks to pop out and doesn’t really blend well with the overall shot.
The ship in deep space, so there is no planets or anything like that in the shot for reference. The solar systems star is the only real light source, and it casts the only real shadows in the shot. I have a low level ambient (white) light which provides general illumination otherwise everything would be black, which is probably realistic but doesn’t make an interesting shot.
I have tried several setups within the compositor and I’m just not getting anything that seems to work so I am looking for some advice/compositing steps from people that know better than I.
I have attached a basic render of the ship on a starfield for reference. No compositing or effects have been applied. The model and materials are still very much a WIP, but feel free to comment. I’m more concerned with the compositing steps that should be taken to make the shot work.
