Hey all. I’m working on making sheep ears and wanted to add a little bit of hair in the ears. I’m relatively new to Blender and know only the basics. While adding cones to the ear, I wanted to check the progress as I went, but when I added the subdivision modifier to the mesh, it only applied it to the ear itself and to none of the ones I intended to be hair. The hairs have a filled bottom to them.
As you can see, there is no change to the hairs. To test this, I added the two hairs to the side of my project and added subdivision modifiers to them. In both images, the subdivisions are on, but there are no visible changes. Are the cones just too small? Did I mess up somewhere, or am I just forgetting something?
Have you tried the hair particles system on Blender? It looks more natural and you can easily place them where you want with vertex groups. There are several YouTube tutorials available.
And for some reason, you want to subdivide the existing hair mesh, make sure that the meshes are joined (Select all the meshes and click Crtl + J). If not, you’ve to apply the subdivision to each individual mesh. As I can see in the picture, the hair and ear looks like separate objects.
You added the subd-modifier to the ear mesh and not to you hair mesh. Anyway: this wil produce by far to many pologons. Try using less points on you radius and more on you bending line, no polygon at all at the root and smooth shading (!!) for the hair mesh if you wann go with this style.
