Help with subsurf/subdivision

I’m brand new to blender but I’m completely amazed at the things I’ve seen people render.

I’m doing a video tut and one thing the guy does is use some settings in the mesh toolbox called subdivision I think…Anyway I don’t have those settings. I think I’m missing some other things too.

This is what my menu looks like:

I would greatly appreciate any help.

 Thanks,

As I said in my response through PM:

You’re not missing anything, the tutorial you are using is just very old. The Blender interface has changed a lot since then.

Click the modifier button and select “Subsurf”

You add subsurf as a modifier.Click on the dropdown menu under modifiers and choose subsurf. (2nd last tab on the right in your pic) You can also subdivide a mesh by pressing the w key>subdivide in edit mode.

Ahh there it is. Man I looked for that darn setting for about 45 minutes…Thanks. Sorry for the PM by the way…

We all fall to the can’t-find-the-button-for-45-minutes thing at least 5 times in our Blender life.

By the way, did you figure out why you couldn’t post?

Yea I did I had to activate my account with an email I didn’t notice I got…

Yea man I thought Photoshop and Premier were hard to learn. Blender is a whole nother ballgame. I barely have an idea after playing with it for a total of almost 5 hours throughout the day. It’s definitely a pwoerful program. I still can’t believe it’s open source…
