How do I create that sphere with green transparancy and a white “wire”? The green stuff I know how to do… But how would the jpeg file look like for that wire stuff?
When you add a new material, you have an option to click “WIRE” - one of the light purple buttons. If you added a UVsphere with a low segment count as the ‘wire’ and then added the transparent sphere inside…?
Not sure how to fatten WIRE [yet]. Here’s another approach that might be more successful. Make a curve for your vertical lines and fattenen it up. Spindup it around 360, in as many steps you want. For the horizontals, start in the middle and model a band. Make as many dupilcates as you need for one half and space them towards one of your axis. Scale them to fit your globe. Once you’ve done one half, mirror duplicate it to the other side. If you’re happy with the fit, join the meshs. Hope this helps
Thought I’d test my theory above, while I wait for some-one to help me with my problem listed elsewhere. Did it rather sloppy and fast test, but convinced it can work…

But the thing is, the goal is to make the texture for that. The only models in that image are the spheres and the surface they are sitting on. That is what is so cool about the image, is the lack of real objects.
I have an idea of how to do that. I’ll try it out and get back to you in a bit.
Apply it to te sphere and let it repeat a few times. To make the black part invisible select CalcAlpha in the Texture Image panel (F6). Press F5 to go to the Material Buttons and make it a spherical map. In the MapTo panel select Col, Alpha and Stencil.

Loaded the texture Softworks posted, to do some tests with the sphere. To get the sphere to look anything like the desired image had to pump the xsize up to 10, and the ysize up to 50. Besides the fact that it looks stuck on, the texture is no longer visible on the opposite side. Strangely when mapped to ‘FLAT’, it is visible, albeit in a weird way. Curious what the solution is.

In the same panel where you load the image there is a Repeat button and two fields XRepeat and YRepeat to repeat an image several times. Don’t forget to set the mapping to Spherical.
BTW, the imagemap doesn’t have to have a 3D bevel look like the imagemap I posted before. To achieve a 3D wire look you can also use a plain black and white image, and set bumpmapping for the texturemap.
