Hippo3D the Rhino3D Alternative for Blender

Hey peps, today I found out that there are actually other experiments going on with Blender’s geometry nodes besides the well-known Surface Psycho.

Another Blender user, Victor Calixto, is working on something I’ve always dreamed of seeing in Blender, a NURBS modeler. He’s built Hippo3D, a NURBS CAD modeler that imports and exports both STEP files and Rhino3D files.

"Hippo3D is a free, open-source CAD modeling toolkit for Blender, focused on precision modeling workflows for designers, architects, computational designers, manufacturers, digital fabrication and advanced geometry workflows.

The project is inspired by Rhino 3D and aims to bring Rhino-like direct modeling interactions and CAD workflows into Blender, while staying fully integrated with Blender’s ecosystem and Python API."

I’d also like to share this other project that uses geometry nodes to create advanced NURBS surfaces, similar to Surface Psycho. It seems to be a personal experiment, though, so no files are shared; the author is Mathias Schulenberg.

These NURBS-related projects are going to be a trailblazer for the future, and we’ll have more tools like this. It’s taken over 20 years to finally get something new when it comes to NURBS in Blender, and I have to say I never imagined geometry nodes could let you build this kind of application.

Greetings..

Hi pafurijaz, your post is amazing ! I installed Hippo and it’s top-notch.

BUT how to use it ? There isn’t enough explanation on Github! Where could I send a mail to obtain explanations?

Hi, you can try to contact the author on GitHub, but the add-on is still in the early stages of development, as you can see from the list of things to do.
