It could have something to do with it officially being the end of the road for 2.7x (which also means all future 2.8 development simply going into master, the 2.8 branch is merged in and done).

Now, there is a 2.79 branch related to odds and ends related to the version, but I anticipate any development there to be very minor things which will soon stop.
