Well, I do enjoy doing ships, but if anything I’d do another ship of the same time, perhaps a French vessel, and use that to set up a battle scene. But that would be a HUGE project, and I’m certainly not planning on doing that now.
Yeah I might do, the shaders and so forth are all still very simple and easily convertible for indigo. But I think the main problem is just the complexity of the scene. What I’d like to do is do some below decks renders of the ship in indigo, which would allow me to get rid of much of the rigging and stuff from the outside, so it would probably work fine. But I haven’t modelled much of the inside of the ship yet, so that’s also a project for another time. My main aims for now are to render some nice flythrough and turntable animations, and then to do a nice big beauty render in a proper ocean scene, with some nice clouds and fog if computing power/my compositing abilities permit.
Well, I’ve let this lie for a while. Anyway, I finally got around to doing a decent fully rendered turntable. I’ve had to compromise a little on the render settings in order to get it to something my comp can handle for animation, but nonetheless I’m pretty pleased with it. I’ll try and to some final beauty renders soon as well, at which point I’ll call it finished for the time being. Unless I can find the time to make some soldiers and sailors for it. Then, well… :eyebrowlift2:
Edit: Sorry, Vimeo seems to have sent me to the back of the queue again , you might have to wait a little for the video. I added a screenshot to make up for it.
I shall probably do more boats in future yes, they’re such fun to work on - a great mix of organic modelling for things like the hull, with hard surface for the other parts, plus they’re just beautiful objects. I’ve got a few I’d like to do, maybe the Amerigo Vespucci - though that might have to wait until I have a bit more RAM - it’s huge! Other than that I’d like to do a smaller boat - a smallish schooner for example, so I could really nail the details without running out of polys to use before my computer breaks down. The other thing I want to try is a non-realistic ship like this.
But I’m getting ahead of myself… I’ve got plenty of other stuff to work on for now :P.
1 - i did not find the blueprint at the indicated blueprint site?
2 - i think it would be easier and faster to have more than one page for
the tutorial and some of the pic did not show up
may be this would not happen if the pages where smaller
Thanks Ricky Blender, I thought I might have broken those earlier, but it was working fine when I uploaded it. Hopefully the pics should be fixed now though.
I was never able to find a proper blueprint for the Victory - I just put up the link as a general resource.
Nice work on the modeling and texturing. Some of the curves in the bow look a little jagged, like they could be smoothed out more. Also, for the turntable animation. maybe slow down the rotation some? Zoom in a bit more and slow the rotation. The ship is impressive looking, but I can’t really look the ship over when it’s spinning so fast.
haha… i was modeling the victory a while back… just like you i was having a had time finding blueprints… so i looked on google for some 3d models that had been made of her and i now recognise the images here hope you dont mind me using ur renders as references
