I’m trying to model a bowling ball, but making the holes allways turns out horrible for me! I’ve tried removing faces, inserting a circle, and using Shift-F but it allways turns out horrible. I’ve tried using beauty fill too, but that didn’t make any difference. Any advice on what I’m doing wrong or alternate methods?
Thanks for the quick reply I’m going to try this right now.
Yuck…booleans
They arent pretty at ALL but they work, I suppose. I prefer to just model the things I need.
Then again, if you dont care how your mesh is built as long as it gets the job done, booleans do work (sometimes)

Also there is the knife tool in tuhopuu2, which can at times leave some messy geometry behind, but it’s not anywhere near as drastic as booleans, and can easily be cleaned up.
Yea… the booleans did give me a weird mesh (it looked better if I subdvided the sphere about 3 times…but the pointy edges it left made it look funny still). How would you propose to model this though? I tried…and well…the booleans looked MUCH better (which just means my method was pretty horrible).
Create an uvsphere with low ring/section(sector? segment?) count (adjust them so that the rectangles are square), subsurf it, remove individual rectangles.
Very easy, one only has to have ideas
