Hotel Project

I need some help and advice for a project I’m working on. Currently I have a 3d hotel in blender and some aerial video that I want to merge into one. Unfortunately I do not know how to go about doing this. So what I need is some input on how I can go about doing this, and if I can not merge them what other options are open to me??

What you first need is Icarus, motion capture software that will enable you to match digital camera movements to movements in film. Then you can import that to blender, shrink the hotel to scale, and add it in there. To make the trees match over it, you could make some kind of tree-line shaped occluding mesh with a material that will replace everything with background.

I went ahead and downloaded lcarus and tested part of the footage with it. In blender I only used a square mesh to test it out and this is what I came up with. I’m still not sure about how I can go about tying in the trees around the mesh even though you explained it to me.

Hmmm, you have a little slipping, but overall I think you’re on the right track.

As a hint, though, don’t post your videos up as AVI RAWs

EDIT: Forgot to mention the masking thingy. Ok, you have the video set to the background, right? Well then, make a rough model of the trees in front, and give the model a texture with the ‘env’ option on.
